About
About Emily Corkery, M.Ed.
From the classroom to the counselling room.
I’m a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC). I hold a master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Ottawa.
I work with children from age 4, teens, young adults, adults and families, in person in Stittsville and online across Ontario.

Why I became a therapist
Before becoming a therapist, I was a teacher. In the classroom, I saw how many children struggled at school because of their mental health.
It’s hard for kids to focus on learning when they’re carrying emotional struggles inside, or going through a tough time at home or with friends. I wanted to help them succeed by supporting their emotional well-being, and that led me to counselling.
Teaching still shapes how I work: with patience, with real connection, and with an eye for each person’s strengths.

Collaborative, never one-size-fits-all

No single approach works for everyone, so I work with you to understand your circumstances and set goals that feel meaningful and achievable.
My approaches include:
- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
- Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), including mindfulness skills
I also draw on psychoeducation to help you understand your experiences and build coping strategies.
A strong counselling relationship begins with trust and respect, and we can adapt our approach as your needs change. You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out.
